Getting Married on Grand Bahama

by Admin 9/4/2009 6:08:00 PM

Today I met a wonderful couple that was planning on getting married during their stay on Grand Bahama. They weren’t too sure where to do the ceremony and were asking if I had any recommendations. The Garden of the Groves is the perfect place for a romantic, tropical wedding. Winding paths, duck ponds and cascading waterfalls provide the perfect backdrop for those keepsake photos. Floral patterns of gardenias, bougainvillea, and hibiscus to name a few, make beautiful bouquets that will certainly compliment whatever is worn on that special occasion. If you are planning a wedding on Grand Bahama, remember that there are some requirements for you to obtain your marriage license.

1. The couple must be in Grand Bahama when applying for the marriage license, 24 hours before the wedding date.

2. If either party is under 18 years old, parental consent is required. Consent forms may be obtained from the Registrar General's Office.

3. If either party has been divorced, the original final decree or a certified copy must be produced.  If either party is widowed, the death certificate of the deceased spouse must be produced.

4. If either party is unmarried, a notarized declaration certifying this fact must be produced and accompany the license application.

ALL DOCUMENTS ACCOMPANYING THE COUPLE MUST BE CERTIFIED/ NOTARIZED

Settlements

by Admin 9/3/2009 10:06:00 PM
Grand Bahama is home to many coastal villages, towns and settlements that are spread out along its pearly white pristine beaches and bordered by turquoise blue waters. The most popular area for tourists and visitors is of course the Freeport/Lucaya area; however there are many other hidden gems to discover when you explore Grand Bahama Island’s towns and settlements. Check out DEADMAN’S REEF is the home of Paradise Cove, where you can swim out to some of the best snorkeling reefs, and the Brown family, who have lived here for 100 years. A recent archaeological dig along the eroding beachfront unearthed many artifacts belonging to the Lucayan Indians -- hearths, animal bones, pottery pieces, and shell beads. One of the most important Lucayan archaeological sites discovered to date, it has been dated at around 1200-1300AD.

Busy Busy

by Admin 9/1/2009 7:50:00 PM
I have been really busy the past few days preparing for Discovery Sun to go into wet dock. There is a lot of packing up and cleaning to be done as well as a lot of paperwork. I am getting there slowly and still have a few more days to get it all done. The weather has been fantastic on Grand Bahama, perfect beach weather, if I only had the time. I am off tomorrow and have a ton of stuff to do, so I have another busy day ahead of me. I am looking forward to my break in Fort Lauderdale so that I can relax and spend time at the beach & boating….all the things I love to do…

Cruise Deals

by Admin 8/29/2009 9:50:00 PM
It was another beautiful day on Grand Bahama today and I managed to spend an hour on the beach. Since Discovery Sun is going into wet dock next month a lot of crew are excited because they will be going on vacation. I will also be taking a break and will be spending my time in Fort Lauderdale. Once Discovery Sun resumes sailing in October we have some really great deals to sail to Grand Bahama. You can take a one day cruise from Fort Lauderdale over to Grand Bahama Island for as little as $19.99 per person, check out Discovery’s web page for the details.

working on a tan....

by Admin 8/28/2009 9:05:00 PM
I had a really peaceful afternoon on Grand Bahama today. Discovery Sun docked about 40 minutes ahead of schedule. I took advantage of the extra time and went for a quick run before heading out to the beach for an hour. The weather was beautiful and the ocean was nice and warm. I hope that I can make this my routine over the next week, so that I have a bit of a tan when I sign off.

Early Sailing

by Admin 8/27/2009 11:34:00 AM
I had quite a pleasant day off yesterday and was able to run some much needed errands. It is hard to get everything done when you only have one day, but I am getting the hang of it. Discovery Sun sailed early this morning, which means early arrival on Grand Bahama and more time on the island for our one day Bahamas cruise passengers. The weather is beautiful and we have already sold quite a few tickets for the Snorkel Adventure. I am planning on having a light lunch at Pier One restaurant which is just across from where Discovery Sun docks.

Back to School

by Admin 8/24/2009 10:07:00 PM
Today is the first day back at school for kids in Florida and I can really see the difference on the ship. For the past two months we have had large amounts of children onboard Discovery Sun and the kids club has been packed.  Since it was a bit quieter today, I was planning on spending a few hours on the beach this afternoon. Unfortunately about an hour before arrival on Grand Bahama it started to rain and spoiled my plans. I did however make good use of my time and did a little exercise. The weather forecast for tomorrow is better, so fingers crossed I will be relax on the beach in the afternoon.
