mv Discovery Sun

A lot of people call and ask me what our ship is like and if we have any photos - and so I would like to share with you my view of the ship. The Discovery Sun can carry up to 1200 passengers and was built as a "roll-on / Roll-off" Ferry. Some people may refer to her as "Old"-  this is something that I am very sensitive about since we both share the same year of "birth" so to speak (1968 - you do the math!) The MV Discovery Sun was built in an era when ships were built as ships and not fancy floating hotels - so the pleasure for me is that you actually feel like you are on a ship when onboard and not in a hotel so big that you constantly get lost and don't really feel like you are at sea. She is very well maintained (this is an ongoing job, as those of you that share our age are probably now starting to learn) and the decor is colorful and bright. it would be unfair to compare our ship to a brand new mega ship - they are built to accomodate the masses - what I like about our ship as both an ex crew member and a passenger is that you can quickly find your way around and the fact that everyone onboard works together so well as a family - which is something unfortunatley lost on a mega ship. I think that this then reflects our guests experiences. I was onboard the ship on Wednesday and decided to take a few photos to share -they are not the best quality pictures, but the give an honest and fair picture of the ship - I try to take some more soon.

About the author

This is a personal weblog. The views and opinions expressed here represent my own (and those of some of the commentators that I have included) and not those of Discovery Cruise Line or Discovery Management. I have worked in the cruise industry since joining Carnival Cruise Line in 1990 as a member of the cruise staff team. I joined the Discovery Cruise Line family in 1996, sailing daily to Grand Bahama Island as Shore Excursion Manager. I was promoted to the position of Cruise Director in 1999 and continued to sail daily to Grand Bahama Island until 2003, when I began working in the Miami office as Entertainment & Communications Manager. I still continue to sail to Grand Bahama at least one day per week. The purpose of this blog is to share tips and information about Grand Bahama in the I hope that it will be useful in helping visitors make the best of their travel plans from both my own and other bloggers' experiences.
