One Day Cruise Snorkel Trip

by Admin 7/31/2009 10:22:00 PM

Discovery Cruise Line is now offering a snorkel trip for passengers taking a one-day cruise to Grand Bahama. The warm waters of the Bahamas make snorkeling appealing year around. The unique reefs of the Bahamas break ocean waves and provide calm waters and a habitat where fish thrive. The waters of the Bahamas are some of the clearest in the World. Visibility on a clear day is up to 200 ft. Shallow waters- like those found at Rainbow Reef (off Grand Bahama) are 2 - 14 feet deep- allowing visitors to get a close look at the coral reef and an abundance of small colorful fish. It is an adventure for beginners, immediate & advance snorkelers alike. The Fantasia Sea Safari Snorkel, also available to passengers on 2 and 3 night cruises, leaves from the Port Lucaya dock at 1:30pm and returns at 3:30pm. While traveling to the reef you will receive instructions by one of the experienced guides. The staff onboard is very friendly and ready to please you. The Fantasia is specially designed to allow all ages to get into the water easily. Floatation gear is provided so that exertion is minimum. You simply lie on the water and enjoy the view. Guides are in water to assist you while you snorkel. After snorkeling you can ride the slide or test your strength and skill on our 30 ft. rock-climbing wall.

DISCOVERY CRUISE LINE SELECTED FOR CELEBRATION OF 99TH BIRTHDAY

by Admin 7/24/2009 11:52:00 AM

We have a regular cruiser and he is quite a character! He sails every couple of weeks and recently celebrated his 99th birthday onboard! Needles to say, we made sure that he celebrated in style and treated him to our 7 course gourmet dinner. Here is a press release that is going out about him - he would be so pleased if he could get a mention on the news (he is quite the star in making!)

DISCOVERY CRUISE LINE SELECTED FOR CELEBRATION OF 99TH BIRTHDAY

Frequent cruiser feels at “home” on Discovery

Miami, FL—To Al Roth, Discovery Cruise Line is like his second home.  So it was no surprise when he shared his 99th birthday celebration  July 7 on board with his friends at Discovery.

According to Hanns J. Hahn, General Manager of Discovery, “Mr. Roth is a frequent passenger of ours, sailing usually on our Fun Day cruises to Grand Bahama Island.  I believe he has already sailed with us ten times this year alone.  On board the Discovery Sun he is with friends.”

Mr. Roth says “Some of the things I like best on Discovery are the hospitality and the personal touch.  I just love their onion soup.  I cruise maybe 30 times a year and enjoy both the trip going and returning.  I am still active in our 45 year old family business, New River Groves, in Davie, Florida.  I still mingle with all our customers and still love “making the sale.”  Happy Birthday to Mr. Roth and we wish him many more, hopefully on Discovery.

Discovery sails every day except Wednesdays from Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale to Grand Bahama Island, departing at 7:45 am and returning at 10 pm.  In addition to Club Grand Bahama, Discovery offers same day roundtrip cruises as well as cruise and stay vacation packages at a wide selection of hotels from budget to deluxe, including Pelican Bay  at Lucaya,  Our Lucaya Reef Village (formerly Sheraton Grand Bahama Island Our Lucaya Resort), Taino Beach Resort & Clubs, Viva Wyndham Fortuna (all-inclusive), and Radisson Our Lucaya  Resort, Grand Bahama Island (formerly The Westin Grand Bahama Island Our Lucaya Resort).

On Grand Bahama visitors experience an entirely different culture, extraordinary beaches, interesting excursions, and brand new adventures.  Activities include snorkeling, caves, kayaking, fishing, diving, golf, eco-adventures, duty-free shopping, Swim with the Dolphins, a straw market, and many other tourist attractions.

This is a personal weblog. The views and opinions expressed here represent my own (and those of some of the commentators that I have included) and not those of Discovery Cruise Line or Discovery Management. I have worked in the cruise industry since joining Carnival Cruise Line in 1990 as a member of the cruise staff team. I joined the Discovery Cruise Line family in 1996, sailing daily to Grand Bahama Island as Shore Excursion Manager. I was promoted to the position of Cruise Director in 1999 and continued to sail daily to Grand Bahama Island until 2003, when I began working in the Miami office as Entertainment & Communications Manager. I still continue to sail to Grand Bahama at least one day per week. The purpose of this blog is to share tips and information about Grand Bahama in the I hope that it will be useful in helping visitors make the best of their travel plans from both my own and other bloggers' experiences.
